Addressing reporters on Wednesday, KDA Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru said the move will help those aspiring to write the examinations in Kannada language. The Kannada text books will be ready in six months.

Though aspirants are allowed to write these examinations in Kannada, text books are not available in the language. So, many bright students from rural areas have not been able to get through these examinations, Chandru said.

The KDA has urged newly-elected MPs from all political parties from the State to take oath in Kannada.

Chandru said he has written to State Presidents of all three political parties -- the BJP, the Congress and the JD(S) - to ensure that their MPs take oath in Kannada.

The intention behind this is to send a strong message to the Centre that all Karnataka MPs are united as far as Kannada language is concerned, he added.

Ultimatum to CM

Mukhyamantri Chandru has served an ultimatum to Chief Minister Yeddyurappa on implementing Kannada in the day-to-day administration of the State.

“I have repeatedly appealed to the Government to ensure that Kannada is used in administration. But nothing has been done so far. Government orders come out in English, and the vehicle number plates of many Government vehicles are in English...I will request the CM once more by writing a letter. If nothing is done, I will raise the issue in the coming Legislature session. Then I should not be blamed for putting the Government in an embarrassing situation,” he stated.
