Glass as a material is both, an interesting and exciting medium to work with when it comes to interior decoration of the house. It can act as a decorative element when used along with stone, wood or any metal.

It can suit or blend with any type of material like wood, steel, aluminium or even brass. The use of glass can transform an interior space where it can create an illusion of more space. It lends delicacy and enchanting beauty.

It is generally considered a brittle material and needs careful maintenance. Despite such odds, glass can be used without compromising the aesthetic value of the interiors.

Glass can be used in many ways; be it a display cabinet in the living area or along with wood as part of a lobby decor. Its sheer beauty makes it a demarcative element as well. An exquisitely-textured glass serves as a beautiful partition between the dining and the living room or the library and home office.

A similar glass demarcative element can be created in the form of a cabinet, where the glass is well-fused with wood. A glass partition can also be made to feature flowing water. In a courtyard, with a water body, glass can be an effective water curtain.

When it comes to lighting, instead of going for conventional features,  exotic glass pillars that are exquisitely sculpted could fuse light, which serves as a focal point in the interior rather than as a lighting element. These light fixtures can manifest as vertical pieces or features on the ceiling. It can also be used at the floor level in specific zones like courtyards, which require high lighting.

Glass, when used in staircases, can be blended with wood/steel; it can incorporate features that reflect the theme of one’s home’s interiors. For windows, stained glass is traditionally used. In the present scenario, to get more natural light and to make the space look larger, the medium of glass can be used. Stained glass is apt for sky lights and as a partition screen between the dining and living area.

Stained glass can also be used underneath the staircase banister; it looks very contemporary, especially if the banister is made of steel. Stained glass windows can be used as a corner design element in the house. It can also be used to heighten the design aesthetics of the elevation of a residence. Use of stained glass as cabinet doors in kitchens is also a great idea.

In the bathroom, glass can be used in the shower cubicle or in the powder room. Glass in bedrooms and other living spaces of the house can be used as a part of the design element to create the right ambience. When used in a wall mural, stained glass creates an outstanding impact.

Use of subtle colours on the walls, wherever stained glass is used for windows or design elements, can bring to  fore the colour and lighting aspects. It’s the perfect way to create a display.
