Teachers of the district should maintain their commitment, team spirit and chalk out work plan from the beginning of the year to achieve first position in SSLC in the State, Deputy Director of Public Walter D’Mellow said.

Presiding over the education conference-cum-honouring of students of SSLC-2015, heads of institutions with 100 per cent results and establishment of Stany Francis Baretto SSLC scholarships, organised by Mangalore City High School Headmasters’ and Pre-University College Principals’ Association (MCHMPA) at Milagres PU College Hall, here on Thursday, he said teachers have done a great job to lift Dakshina Kannada from 28th place to eighth place in 2014-15. The pass percentage has been increased and 114 schools have achieved 100 per cent result, he said.  Milagres Educational Institutions former administrator Rev Fr Francis X Gomes opined that education is learning process of womb to tomb. In the era of technology, a teacher should always be a learner, else they have to learn from students.  Now, students have become multi-talented. There are toppers who score good marks and there are students who can achieve with small guidance.

All toppers should become achievers, he said. “World has become more competitive with global village concept. Except engineering and medical, there are several other neglected fields. Students can think over and take a firm decision about it. Develop work culture. Teachers should be alternative parents to children in school. Parents should develop responsibility among children. Bravery is a quality of mind. It should be with children,” he said. Catholic Board of Education Secretary Rev Fr Gerald D’Souza said in democracy, students are the future of the country. Educational institutions and teachers should join hands with parents.

The songs are written and edited by Stany Baretto himself, without the help of sponsors. Stany Baretto donated 1,000 CDs to MCHMPA which will be distributed to students of various schools in Mangaluru.
