A security guard posted at the JP Nagar Metro Station was found murdered on Wednesday night.

The victim, Utpal Dutta, 53, a native of Assam, had been employed at the Banashankari section of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited. He was staying at a makeshift shed constructed for metro workers in Banashankari, said the police.

The motive for Dutta’s murder is yet to be ascertained, said a police inspector.
Dinesh, another security guard at the station, told the police, “Dutta went to the ground floor of the station at around 8.30 pm to take rest and I was working upstairs. I came down for some work around 9.30 pm and spotted him in a pool of blood.”

The assailants have repeatedly attacked Dutta with sharp-edged weapons. He died of massive head injuries, the police said.

Nayaz Ahmed, in charge of the security guards, received a call from his assistant R K Singh who told him about Dutta’s murder. Ahmed rushed to the spot and shifted Dutta, with the help of other security guards, to Nimhans, but doctors declared him ‘dead on arrival.’

Preliminary investigation revealed that Dutta had some dispute with his colleagues over doing shifts. He always worked both day and night shifts and earned more money.

A few other guards had exchanged words with him as he had refused to give them a chance to do both shifts, the police said.

Further investigation is on.
