A scuffle during a cricket match has led to two youths being thrashed with iron rods in outer Delhi’s Rohini.

The victims have suffered head injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Mayank and Gaurav, both aged 18, have told police that they were involved in a scuffle with Ankit Anand around two months ago over a decision during a local cricket match.

Intervention by other players had settled the matter at that time, but Anand had threatened them and was allegedly looking for an opportunity to seek revenge.

The assault took place on Saturday night while Mayank and Gaurav were having chhole bhature at a roadside stall in a Rohini market.

Anand suddenly appeared at the scene and struck Gaurav on his head with an iron rod. As Gaurav was trying to recover, he was struck again. He fell unconscious and bleeding.
Anand then attacked Gaurav and repeatedly thrashed him with the rod.
Before anyone could intervene, Anand fled.

“While escaping, Anand threatened to kill us if we informed police,” Gaurav said in his statement.

The victims were taken to a nearby hospital by locals. Police were informed by the hospital authorities.

The seriousness of the injuries made the police team wait until the next day before they could take Gaurav’s statement and register a complaint of attempt to commit culpable homicide and criminal intimidation.

He told police that he was certain the assault was in retaliation to the scuffle during the cricket match.

Police raided Anand’s home, but he was absconding.
The three youths involved in the incident live in Rohini sector 7. They regularly played cricket in the locality till the skirmish between them around two months ago.
