Action sought against pubs serving liquor to children

Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar has established an email-hotline to facilitate parents and others to anonymously make complaints against pubs, bars and restaurants in the City where those below 21 years are served alcohol in violation of rules.

Chandrashekar initiated the move soon after he wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramiah seeking action against bars and restaurants in the City that were serving liquor to minors, including schoolchildren. Parents and citizens can write to protectourchildren@rajeev.in with details of establishments serving alcohol to minor, a media release from Chandrashekar’s office said.

“After receiving several complaints from parents of teenagers and school teachers concerned, Chandrasekhar decided to bring the errant establishments to book, make them accountable and consequently approached Siddaramaiah to take cognizance of the issue,” the release stated.

“Serving liquor to the under-aged is not just a blatant violation of law but a crime. Restaurants, bars and other commercial establishments found to be flouting rules must be brought to book and penalised,” the MP stated in the letter.

In his letter to the chief minister, Chandrasekhar has named three outlets which he said had been allegedly serving alcohol to underaged customers.

“The audits of such establishments should be conducted besides surprise checks against such outlets.”
