Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for the construction of an industrial park in Chamarajanagar on June 23.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Thursday, Chamarajanagar district-in-charge minister H S Mahadeva Prasad said that the park will create job opportunities for people. As many as 300 investors have showed interest in setting up industries in the district and MoUs worth Rs 12,000 crore were signed last January, the minister added.

Prasad said that the district continues to remain most backward and to address this issue, the State government has chalked out several measures for the overall development of the district. One among the steps taken is the establishment of an industrial park at Badanakuppe and Kellamballi villages, he added.

The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) has so far acquired around 1, 057 acres of land and has began work on the acquired land. Mahadeva said that a granite industry will be set up in 72.08 acres of land, garment factories in 83 acres, leather park in 64.07 acres, automobile and general engineering industries in 102 acres, agro and food processing units in 46.03 acres, ayurvedic centres in 25 acres and other small industries in 251 acres.

Road connectivity

The National Highways is preparing a Detailed Project Report to construct a four-lane highway between Mysuru and Koulande for better road connectivity. Tenders have been invited for carrying out works between Koulande to Chamarajanagar at Rs 50 crore. Works have also began on the Pananjur Road to provide connectivity from Chamarajanagar to Tamil Nadu.

Measures have been initiated to draw 25 MLD of water from the Kabini River. A 120 kv power substation should be set up at the park and as of now a 66/11 kv power substation will be set up by the KPTCL, the minister said.
