Aditi hits the front with brilliant 69

Favourite Aditi Ashok shot the only sub-par card of the day to dominate the opening round honours in the IGU Southern India Junior Girls & Ladies Golf Championship here on Tuesday.

The local teenager shot a superb three-under 69 to open up a healthy five-shot lead at the Eagleton Golf Resort. Tvesa Malik and Seher Atwal shared the second place at 74 while the trio of Riya Ahuja, Tavleen Batra and Tarinin Kakar were further way back in tied fourth spot at 77.

Gurbani shines

Amateur Gurbani Singh played an impressive round, returning with a sizzling four-under 68 to grab the early lead in the ninth leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour in Srinagar.

She is followed by Panchkula golfer Amandeep Drall, who carded three-under 69. Delhi’s Gauri Monga was in third place at one-under 71 Delhi youngster Vani Kapoor, Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi and Kapurthala’s Gursimar Badwal are tied fifth with identical scores of three-over 75.

Indians sparkle

The Indian team comprising Aman Raj and Viraj Madappa took the day one honours after returning with a total of two-under 142 at the Taiwan Amateur Golf Championship in Taoyuan City on Tuesday.

Raj, current leader of the IGU’s Men’s Order of Merit, carded three birdies for an even-par 72 while Madappa fired six birdies to end the day with two-under 70 at the par-72 Sunrise Golf & Country Club.

Madappa, 17, was also a joint leader in individual category along with Sadom Kaewkanjana of Thailand and Chung-Chieh Yang of Taiwan while Raj was placed tied sixth with Singapore’s Marc Ong.
