Manipal Ambulance Response Service gets under way

KMC Hospital has launched Manipal Ambulance Response Service (MARS), state-of-the-art ambulance service, with intensive care facility at a formal ceremony held at the hospital premises near Ambedkar Circle here on Friday. 

Speaking on the occasion, Manipal University Pro-Vice Chancellor Surendra Shetty opined that along with modern ambulances, infrastructure should be developed to reach the place where modern facilities are available. Though roads are good now a days, number of accidents are increasing. MARS, which has intensive care unit within can provide emergency treatment to victim should serve common man, he said. 

Meanwhile, he opined there is no need of a government medical college to the district as the composite DK has eight medical colleges, all private, but with world class facility. 

SP Dr S D Sharanappa said more that 70 per cent of lives can be saved in accident cases if the victims are treated within 60 minutes of the incident. With the new ambulances with intensive care facility, victims can be treated in the golden hour and chances of saving lives are more.

 Meanwhile, he agreed that the accident rate has been increased in the district. Police are trying their level best to control traffic with more signals, more number of traffic police and volunteers, he said. He flagged off to the new ambulance service. 

KMC Hospital Dean Dr Venkatraya Prabhu, Traffic ACP Uday Nayak, KMC Hospitals Medical Superintendent Dr Anand Venugopal, Manipal Health Enterprise Chairman for Accident and Emergency Dr Mabel, MHE Market Activation Global Head Sonal Pahwa, KMC Manipal CEO M Dayanand were present.
