SIs attacked by drunk drivers

Two police sub-inspectors were attacked by drunk drivers in separate incidents on Sarjapura and Indiranagar on Thursday night.

An inebriated cab driver attempted assault Chandradhar, the SI attached to Madiwala traffic police station, after the latter booked him for drunk driving, on Sarjapur Main Road. Kiran Kumar, the cabbie, was driving his vehicle rashly and negligently and a few motorists had complained to the SI about his driving. 

A traffic constable accompanying the police officer alerted the HSR Layout police, who rushed to the spot and arrested Kumar. In a similar case, Nanjundaiah, the SI attached to Indiranagar traffic police station, was assaulted by a drunk car driver on 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar.

The police said that around 11 pm, the SI, along with constable Sagar, stopped a car for drunk-driving check. They found that Tarun, the driver, was drunk and handed him over a receipt asking him to pay the fine in court. He was asked to take his vehicle from the police after paying the fine.

Soon, Tarun, his friends Gupta and Vinod assaulted the police officer. The constable alerted the control room and a Hoysala patrol vehicle reached the spot. Vinod managed to escape while the police arrested Tarun and Gupta.
