The City BJP on Friday commenced the process of preparation for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections and finalising the composition of  various committees allotting responsibilities to its leaders and cadre.

The party’s core committee met in the City and discussed various aspects pertaining to the polls including selection of candidates, preparing manifesto, campaign strategy etc.

“We  will start with the allocation of responsibilities in the run-up to the polls. The election management committee, logistics committee, campaign committee and manifesto committee, among others will be announced soon”, BJP Palike unit president Subbaranasimha said.

The committees oversee the functioning of several wings under them. Each of the wings will be given specific responsibilities right from organising publicity material to  holding rallies. The functionaries said that the wings work in tandem and meet on a regular basis for coordination.

The process of selection of candidates will start next week. Assembly constituency-wise core committees will be constituted which will recommend names of candidates for wards in the constituency.

The final selection will be done by the party leadership, Subbaranasimha added. Friday’s meeting was attended by Union Ministers D V Sadananda Gowda, Ananth Kumar, Lok Sabha member P C Mohan, R Ashoka among others.

The general mood in the BJP is that it has an edge in the polls. Party functionaries feel that the Congress’ vain bid to postpone the BBMP polls has come as an advantage to the BJP.
