KIMS 'offers' fresh seats in exchange for compensation

Last Updated 09 July 2015, 20:03 IST

After the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed KIMS to pay a compensation of Rs one crore each to three MBSS students who had lost their seats as they were admitted illegally, the college management has reportedly asked the parents of these students to forfeit compensation for fresh seats.

Venkatesh B L, father of Vadaanya, one of the students, said that the KIMS management was giving the parents an offer to admit their wards to first year MBBS only if they forfeit the compensation of Rs one crore.

“I paid a sum of Rs 1.25 crore to the college. I not only want the seat in the first year but also the compensation. They are asking me to give up my claim in writing but I am not going to do that. A year has been lost and by daughter is mentally upset. The management has now said that they would call a meeting by Monday and would inform me,” he said.

Dr H C Rammana, father of student R Lekhashree, said that he was ready to take the offer only if it was unconditional. He said that the management was trying to make him sign an undertaking although the details of which were yet to be discussed. “They are the ones who made the mistake. Now they have to compensate in all the ways they can,” he said

“The court should have thought about the students rather than just awarding the compensation. It is not our mistake but that of the management. A year has been wasted for students,” said a close aid of Sreekar Surapaneni, the third student. The aide further said that Sreekar was in a state of “shock” and that the family was yet to decide on a plan of action.
