Police arrested a man for murdering a water-level technician at Thindlu in Kodigehalli on July 3. The suspect, Anil Kumar, 30, of Gayathri Nagar and a native of Kolar, was also working as a water-level technician.

On July 3, the deceased Srinivas, a resident of Ganesh Nagar, was returning home on his two-wheeler. When he reached Thindlu, Kumar attacked him with a machete and fled. Police shifted Srinivas to a hospital where he died.

A complaint was filed at the Kodigehalli police station by his wife Shobha. The police started investigating the case and suspected that Kumar might have killed Srinivas over personal rivalry. Kumar and Srinivas knew each other as they were from the same profession. Kumar developed a liking for Srinivas’ sister-in-law Shilpa when they met at Srinivas’ wedding. Kumar had reportedly asked Srinivas to talk to the family members and fix his marriage with Shilpa.

However, Srinivas refused to do so and Kumar continued to pursue Shilpa. Kumar decided to eliminate Srinivas, after which he went to his native, from where he was arrested. Srinivaspur police had booked Kumar for misbehaving with Shilpa.
