Pair it with a floral skirt, or ripped jeans, or even a contemporary sari will do. No matter what your body type, you will look fabulous, promises Nikitha Satish, as she checks out the current fashion essential – crop tops

Spotted on celebrities and fashion followers alike, crop tops have been the most happening trend this season and proved to be a versatile trend, loved by one and all. Crop tops are short tops, which end at higher waist, at the narrowest part of the body - which is flattering for almost all body types. From casual to formal, a crop top has got to be your wardrobe staple.

Let’s take a look at some of the options available in the market:

* Casual tops: This is, arguably, the most comfortable crop top, which is loosely fitted and has a worn-out look. It ends at the midriff and is usually seen with funky prints or a classic superhero print.

* Shirt tops: As the name suggests, this crop top looks like a classic shirt with collar and front button-up. It is usually made of cotton with small interesting prints.

* Boat neck tops: These crop tops are usually made of cotton with high neck and small detailing like buttons or metallic zipper.

* Flared tops: This crop top is very loose-fitted and is flared with pleats. Usually sleeveless or with straps.

* Embellished top: These crop tops are fitted and made of cotton silk, raw silk, velvet or sequinned fabric. It also has embroidery and embellishments on it.

Pairing it right

Crop tops look best when paired with the right bottomwear. Here are a few options:

* A complete set: There are crop top sets available, which are made from the same fabric and print. It can be a set of top and skirt or top and pant. They come as a set and can be mixed; they can be worn for a Sunday brunch or an evening out. You can accessorise with statement earrings and necklace. Pair it with dainty ballerinas for the ‘Sunday brunch’ look or with super high heels for an evening out.

* Skirts: Pair any type of crop top with a high-waist skirt. Be it a fitted pencil skirt, a flared mini or a midi-length circular skirt, anything will work.

Accessorise this look with statement ear cuffs. If worn with a pencil skirt, pair it with nude stilettos or kitten heels.

* Pallazos: Pallazos are long loose-fitted flared pants, which are usually worn high waist. Crop top with pallazos make for a very flattering ensemble. Team this outfit with wedges for that ‘wow’ look.

* Jeans: T-shirt crop tops are best worn with jeans. Light blue jeans with crop top gives a very casual and effortless look. Team it up with a funky jacket for extra oomph. You can wear your favourite sneakers with this outfit or add an edge by teaming it with gladiators.

* Sari: A high-neck crop top or an embellished crop top can be worn as a blouse for a sari as well. The length of the crop top makes it compliment the saree well. It adds a twist and gives an interesting appeal. If you are wearing the sari with a high-collar crop top, then skip the neckpiece and wear a bold earring, or skip the earring and put on a stack of bangles and cuffs.
