Differently-abled man goes missing after 10K event

A 36-year-old differently-abled man has gone missing, after taking part in the Bengaluru 10K Challenge, from PES Junction near Nice Road under Byatarayanapura police limits on Sunday.

According to the police, Manjunath, is a resident of Channenahalli on Magadi Road. He was representing Shristi Special Academy, a school for intellectually and physically challenged individuals.

On Sunday, Manjunath, a hearing-impaired, had come along with his teammates and the staff to take part in the 10K event. After the event got over, he was last seen near the canteen.

The organisers and the staff of the academy looked for Manjunath near the venue. But all the efforts to find him were in vain. They approached Byatarayanapura police station and lodged a missing a complaint, said the police.

A senior police officer said, “We have sent a message to all police stations, including the rural police stations, in and around the City about the missing person. Efforts are on to trace the specially-abled person. It is suspected that he might have fainted after the run and someone might have admitted him to a hospital or he might have strayed elsewhere.”

Suchita Somashekaraiah, Managing Director, Shristi Special Academy, said, “Manjunath, a hearing-impaired person, was working in the paper recycling unit and was also doing gardening work in their academy. He had taken part in various marathons held in the City and also in different states.

Manjunath was abandoned by his siblings after his mother’s death. After which, he joined the Academy. On Sunday, he took part in the marathon, completed the distance and was found missing after the event. Our staff, the volunteers and the organisers looked for him in vain,” she added.

4 held in murder case
The Rajagopala Nagar police have arrested four persons in connection with a murder case.
The police have identified the arrested as Vinod, Lohith, Harikesh and Kapil, all residents of Andarahalli and autorickshaw drivers. However, the prime accused Appu is absconding. On Monday night, the accused had stabbed Mani to death, also an autorickshaw driver, near Peenya Second Stage bus stand and fled the spot.

Based on information, the quartet was arrested. During the interrogation, the accused revealed that they murdered Mani over an old rivalry. The police have launched a manhunt to track down the prime accused Appu, police said.
