The locked Delhi home of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s driver was burgled and valuables worth lakhs stolen early on Thursday in R K Puram in south Delhi.

“Two kilograms of silverware, Rs 1 lakh in cash and mobile phones were stolen from the house of Thyagesh Murthy, who drives Siddaramaiah’s car whenever he visits the national capital,” said a police officer.

The burglars probably entered the house after cutting the window grill of the Karnataka government staff quarter which is in R K Puram Sector 6. Murthy and his wife Anita had left for Bengaluru early on Wednesday to escort their daughter who is studying engineering in the City, the police said.

A case has been registered on the complaint of Anita’s brother Arun Verma. The police said Anita had asked Arun to inspect their home after their neighbour informed her over phone about the burglary.

“I got a call from my sister around 6 am about the incident. I informed the police and a team inspected the site after I opened the main door with a duplicate key,” said Verma, who works as a general manager in a media house.

Murthy, who hails from Mysuru, has been living in the KB-13 staff quarter for nine years, Arun added.

The police said, they were not given details of the valuables stolen from the house initially, but when Murthy reached Delhi on Thursday afternoon he gave them the list.

A police officer said the team inspected the crime scene and took pictures besides retrieving  fingerprints. “We are checking the CCTV footage near the staff quarters to check suspicious movements early in the morning,”  he added.
