G Madhusudana, a BJP MLC, has written to the acting Chief Justice S K Mukherjee, urging him not to allow Advocate General Ravivarma Kumar to host an Iftar party on the High Court premises on Friday.

In the letter to the chief justice, Madhusudana stated that as per the AG’s invitation, the Iftar party will be held in his office located on the court premises at  6.45 pm.

He is organising the party in association with two additional advocate generals, A S Ponnanna and A J Shivanna.

The letter said: “The High Court is a sacred place of justice where the Constitution is upheld every day. Ravivarma Kumar could have organised this Iftar dinner at his residence or any place other than his office. The action of the advocate general is highly objectionable and contrary to the secular fabric of the Constitution. I request you to kindly advise the AG properly and prevent him from misusing his official place on the court premises.”

When contacted by Deccan Herald, Kumar defended his action. “The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is conducted annually on the High Court premises. Madhusudana must be aware of this. We have not organised any religious function tomorrow. It’s just a get-together of Muslim brothers and friends.”
