SSB sub-inspector gets Kirti Chakra


This makes him the lone person from the paramilitary force to receive the “Kirti Chakra” for gallantry on this Republic Day.

Singh, in April last year braved a hail of bullets from insurgents in Assam, saving the life of five civilians and the men in his patrol party, which earned him the second highest peacetime gallantry medal posthumously.

Singh was a native of Uttarakhand.

D R Doley Burman, IGP of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) was conferred the President’s police medal for distinguished service.

Eleven other personnel from the force, including K M Cariappa, Assistant Director (PRO) also received Indian Police Medal for meritorious service. Cariappa is a native of Kodagu district.
