Drink-driving costs realtor his life

A man died and three of his friends sustained injuries after the car they were traveling by rammed into a barricade and toppled at Bommanahalli on Thursday night.

The police said that the deceased Narayanaswamy, 35, a realtor and resident of Hongasandra, was driving his car recklessly under the influence of alcohol.

The accident took place in Bommanahalli at the junction between the main road and the service road. The Madivala police said Narayanaswamy had gone for a party, along with his friends, at a bar and restaurant at Kudlu Gate. Late in the night, he was on his way to drop off his friends, Babu Chowdhary, Appi and another person at their homes. On reaching the junction at Bommanahalli, Narayanaswamy lost control of the car and rammed it into a barricade and the vehicle toppled over.

Narayanaswamy sustained serious head injuries and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. His friends are being treated at a private hospital, a police officer said.

100 autos seized

The west division traffic police on Thursday seized around 100 autorickshaws for refusing to go on hire and demanding excess fares from passengers. In a special drive in the morning, the traffic police in the City Market area flagged down autorickshaws which refused to ferry people.

A senior police officer said there were many complaints from the City Market area about autorickshaw drivers. The drive, which started at around 6.30 am, continued till 8.30 am. Plainclothes traffic cops stopped autorickshaws and seized about hundred vehicles within two hours.
