Police bust pirated CD racket

In a major haul, the City police recovered valuables worth Rs 29.56 lakh by cracking various cases in different police station limits.

Addressing newsmen on Sunday, City Police Commissioner B Dayananda said “The City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths, along with Udayagiri police, raided Sada Bahaar CD/DVD Shop on Abu Ahil Masjid Road in Azeez Sait Nagar recently, and busted a pirated CD racket.”

Dayananda said Rizwan Pasha alisa Rizwan, aged 40 years and a resident of the locality. was involved in the racket. When inspected, Rizwan had stocked 50,000 cover posters of various films, 25,000 discs of various films, 12 writers and five computer systems, 2,000 empty discs, 5,000 MP3 discs and two pen drives having the copies of recent films. Rizwan also had Rs 1.004 lakh in his possession. All the articles and cash, worth a total of Rs 25 lakh, have been seized during the raid, he added.

The city police commissioner said Rizwan is a known offender, who was earlier arrested on a similar charge and cases have been registered against him at Devaraja, Lashkar and Udayagiri stations, he added.

Habitual offender held
In another case, Vijayanagar police arrested a habitual offender who had been evading police in house burglary and theft cases.

Ravikiran alias Kiran,21, a resident of Jeevanbima Nagar, Bengaluru, was arrested by the police near the bus stand at Bilikere, Hunsur taluk in the district. Following his arrest, the police have solved three daylight theft cases. They have recovered 127 gram of gold valuables, electronic gadgets and a Ford Icon car, in all worth Rs 3.50 lakh. The data base of finger prints available with the City police came in handy for the investigators.

Explaining Kiran’s modus operandi, Dayananda said, “Kiran was adept at targeting the locked houses and breaking into them only in daylight. He was leading a lavish life from the ill-gotten wealth. Cases are pending against him at Jeevanbima Nagar police station in Bengaluru.”

Chain-snatcher arrested
Acting swiftly, the City police succeeded in solving a chain-snatching case registered in Nazarbad station on July 23.

Asgar alias Asgar Pasha, 33, of T Narsipur had relieved one Devamma of Nandini Layout of her gold chain worth Rs 90,000.Devamma, a security guard at K R Hospital in the City, was returning home, when she was robbed of the chain near her house. Soon after yanking off the chain, the accused had hidden it digging the ground near a farm belonging to one Mahadevappa on Lalithadripura Road.

The City police commissioner said Asgar was a punter who was taking to crime whenever he wanted money to place the bets. He was regular to Mysore Race Club, he said.

The CCB sleuths have also arrested a man on the charge of transporting liquor without licence on his two-wheeler on T Narsipur Road recently. Raju, 25, a native of Bidarallihundi, Arakere hobli in Mandya district, was transporting 315 tetra packs of liquor to sell them at higher prices at Kiralu village in Mysuru taluk. The liquor is estimated worth Rs 16,000.

Moneylender held
The CCB sleuths have arrested a woman moneylender on the charge of harassing people. Pushpa, a resident of Ramakrishna Nagar, was charging higher rates of interest from five per cent to 10 per cent. The policemen raided her house and recovered one pronte, 19 blank cheques and two cellphones from her house. The case has been referred to Kuvempunagar police for further investigation.
