Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, former MLA and Congress leader Vijay Kumar Shetty said that MUDA has received as many as 1,800 objections against the CDP but yet it has been implemented brushing aside objections.

Alleging the ruling party of unilaterally and clandestinely implementing the CDP, without discussing it with the opposition and in the Council, Shetty warned that if the CDP is implemented against the wish of the opposition then they will meet the Chief Minister and the Governor at the earliest.

Builders’ mafia

Shetty opined that the CDP, that is being forced down the throats of the people is nothing but a  plan in the interest of the builders’ mafia to boost their business.
“Mafia led by District-in-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar, a builder himself is indirectly trying to boost the sales of apartments in the town by bringing in faulty Comprehensive Development Plan, which leaves the common man with little scope to build houses of their own,” he said and added that CDP states that about 20 ft of land must be left for laying road in any plot. With such a rule the people having small land holding will have very little space left for constructing the house.

Shetty said that there are lots of flats constructed by various builders, which are unsold and these unfriendly policies are being implemented to boost the sales of the flats.

Opposition leader Harinath said that on one hand the Corporation has blindly given licence for constructing high rise buildings and on the other hand it has not been issuing licence to poor people for construction of houses.

“Over the last three month not even a single licence has been issued by the MCC for constructing houses. Hundreds of applications have piled in Corporation, which have not yet been attended,” he said.

Corporators Naveen D’Souza, Ashok D K, Deepak Poojary and others were present.
