Deputy Commissioner S P Shadakshariswamy directed Regional Transport Authority officials to take suitable measures to provide bus facilities in rural areas and as per the needs of passengers.

Chairing the RTA meeting at DC’s office hall in Chikkamagaluru on Friday, the Deputy Commissioner said that officials should also take into consideration the density of traffic.

He said that population had considerably increased in both urban and rural areas leading high traffic density. There have been requisitions from passengers to start bus facility through KSRTC in rural areas. The Transport Authority should make necessary arrangements for plying of the KSRTC buses in rural areas, depending upon the density of traffic in the respective areas, the Deputy Commissioner said.

He further told the Bus Operators Association representatives to decrease the travel fares in the wake of decrease in diesel prices. Pointing out towards the non-punctuality of the KSRTC buses in rural areas, he said that school and college students had been suffering a great deal due to the irregularity of the buses.
