7-year jail term for human trafficking

The High Court on Friday sentenced two persons to seven years imprisonment for human trafficking. 

  Shahnaz Begum, a resident of Anepalya and Haseena Begum, of Chamarajpet  are the convicted. They were acquitted in the lower court in 2009. The two women had trafficked a minor girl from Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh and used her for prostitution. The girl, now a major, is housed in the home for destitute women. A division bench comprising Justices Mohan M Shantanagoudar and R B Budihal passed the order.

BDA case
The High Court on Friday observed if Bangalore Development Authority was capable of selling of an area reserved for park to a private party, one day it can also sell the High Court premise. While hearing a PIL filed by the residents of Koramangala, who have contended that BDA has sold area meant for park to a private person, the court directed the BDA to file their objections in four weeks.
