Promising to bring pressure on the government to plug the loopholes in ration card distribution, the MLA said issue of ration cards with photos of entitled persons is a small step to check the largescale malpractices in issue of ration cards reported throughout the State.

He was speaking at a programme organised to distribute ration cards with photo identity cards in Koratagere town on Wednesday.

Citing reports that undeserving have enjoyed the benefits of ration cards, depriving the eligible, the MLA appealed to people above the below the poverty line to opt for Above Poverty Line (APL) cards to facilitate the genuinely eligible to access the have the facilities.

“Unless people help to make the change, the efforts of the government will go vain,” he said, urging fair price shop owners to provide the facilities to poor on time. 

Tahsildar Anjaneya Shetty and Town Panchayat president A D Balaramaiah were present.
