Woman killed, husband hurt in road accident

A 36-year-old woman pillion rider died on the spot while her husband was injured when a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus rammed into their bike on Mysuru Road on Thursday.

According to police, the deceased is Mamata Devi, a garment factory worker and resident of Kumbalgodu. Her husband Santosh, who was riding the bike, suffered minor injuries. On Thursday morning, the couple were on their way to a hospital in Bapuji Nagar as Devi was not well.

Around 11 am, as they were travelling on Mysuru Road, a speeding Thrissur-bound bus rear-ended the bike. Devi fell down and came under the wheels of the bus. The public informed the police who rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem. Santosh was rushed to a private hospital.

The police seized the bus and arrested Nijo Mathew, the driver. Movement of vehicles on the stretch came to a halt for almost 30 minutes. Traffic policemen were deployed to cleared the congestion. A case has been registered at the Byatarayanapura traffic police station.
