Man slits mother-in-law's throat

A man slit his mother-in-law’s throat in her house in KP Agrahara on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ratnamma, 45. Ravi Kumar, the accused, is at large and the police are searching for him.

Ratnamma hailed from Ollamballa in Malavalli taluk in Mandya district and was married to Suresh. 

She parted ways with him after he took to alcohol and moved to City. She was employed at a garment factory and lived alone.

Ratnamma’s daughter Chaitra was married to Ravi Kumar about five years ago. The couple lived in Ravi Kumar’s native and had a daughter.

Ravi Kumar and Chaitra were not on good terms and he was harassing her over petty issues. Ratnamma had intervened several times, but had failed to ensure a compromise.

Ravi Kumar went to Ratnamma’s house on Friday night and picked a quarrel over her daughter’s behaviour. Chaitra had left him and he blamed Ratnamma for instigating her daughter against him.

He came back the next day and knocked on Ratnamma’s door around 5 am. He barged into the house when she opened the door and attacked her with a knife. He slit her throat and bludgeoned her.

When Ratnamma raised an alarm, a few neighbours rushed to her help. Seeing the neighbours, Ravi Kumar ran away, said the police.

Ratnamma was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
