AIADMK nominees promise Amma canteens, freebies

Bengaluru voters may get many freebies and Amma canteens if they vote for AIADMK candidates who are in the fray in seven wards of the City, including Okalipuram, Srirampura, SK Garden and Jayanagar. AIADMK had contested and won from a few Tamil-dominated wards in the elections to the erstwhile Bangalore City Corporation.

P Subramani is contesting from Okalipuram ward as the party’s candidate. Subramani wants to tap the 70 per cent Tamil-speaking population in Okalipuram ward. After serving in the Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) for 32 years as an assistant engineer, he quit recently. This first-time contestant aims to develop the ward on the lines of how the Tamil Nadu government has done in its cities.

To attract voters, he has got his manifesto printed in Tamil. Apart from addressing ward problems, the manifesto promises to replicate here all facilities given to people in Tamil Nadu by the AIADMK government.

The list of promises includes free distribution of rice, cows, goats, mixer grinder (which is also the candidate’s symbol) and fans. It vows to make birth and death certificates available without charging fees. The manifesto also promises to set up Amma canteens. Clearing garbage, solving drainage problem, maintaining roads, widening of narrow roads, addressing water problem, repairing faulty electricity poles and easing the traffic problem are the other promises.

He promises to ensure that no high-rise building or mall comes up near slums, because the negative ripple effects like water and traffic problems are experienced by the slum dwellers.

“I want to do good for the people. This is the reason why I have joined politics. I am a Tamilian and I understand the problems of my fellow people staying away from home. I am here to support them. I have been associated with the party for the last 25 years,” Subramani said.
