Last Updated 20 August 2015, 19:07 IST

Doctors working in the Karnataka government’s Health department, who have completed 10 years service, will be transferred, Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader said on Thursday.

They have been directed to report to the Health department commissioner’s office, the minister said. Transfer priority will be given to fill vacancies in the district hospitals, followed by taluk, primary and community health centres, he said, adding that all transfers would be done through counselling.

The State has received a good response from job-seekers for the post of doctor in the Health department. The department has received more than 3,000 applications for the post of 87 dental doctors and 2,500 applications for 361 MBBS doctor posts.

As fewer applications were received for the PG doctors’ post, the government has decided to extend the deadline for submitting applications. Recruitment will be based on merit, he said.

Anti-rabies treatment

The minister said there was sufficient stock of anti-rabies medicine in all taluk and district hospitals. District hospitals facing shortage of drugs have been instructed to make purchases by drawing funds from Arogya Suraksha Nidhi.
