In a significant move, the Centre on Thursday filed an appeal petition against the Madras High Court's single judge order, which granted permission to Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun Network's FM channels to take part in the FM e-auction.
Recently, when the Sun Group moved the court challenging the denial of security clearance by the Centre to participate in FM radio auction for procuring broadcasting license, Madras High Court Justice M Sathyanarayanan passed an interim order to take part in the auction.
The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry is conducting e-auction of 135 private FM channels in 69 cities.The Ministry, in its appeal, said the single judge erred in giving an interim order allowing the companies to take part in the e-auction
