SpiceJet move intensifies fight for fliers

The fight to get more fliers intensified on Thursday with carrier SpiceJet announcing a sale of one lakh seats with fares starting from Rs 799.

Jet Airways, on its part, is also having a ‘LoFares’ sale on prominent routes while its competitor Vistara, which started operations in January this year, announced that it has reached a "special milestone" of flying five lakh customers on Thursday,
Under SpiceJet's three-day 'Freedom to Fly' sale, which will conclude on Saturday, tickets can be booked for travel between August 25 and March 26, 2016. Passengers can also avail an extra discount of 10 per cent if they book through the SpiceJet mobile app.
The one-way fare for SpiceJet sale ranges from Rs 799 to Rs 2,699 and covers popular destinations like Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bengaluru and Srinagar, among others.

The lowest fare of Rs 799 is available on routes like Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai-Goa, Bengaluru-Kochi, Madurai-Chennai, Jammu-Srinagar and Kolkata-Agartala, among others.
In Jet Airways, one can book a Chennai-Bengaluru ticket for Rs 1,248 while a Kochi-Bengaluru fight will cost Rs 1,380. Flights between Bengaluru and Chennai will cost Rs 1,407 while those between Goa and Mumbai and Delhi and Jaipur will cost Rs 1,436 and Rs 1,531, respectively.

While tickets must be purchased on or before October 7, the travel must commence on or before October 7.

Sharat Dhall, president of travel portal Yatra.com, said the sale is an "attempt to win over travellers by giving an extremely attractive offer and stimulate advance bookings for the upcoming long weekends in September and October and the entire festive season."

Vistara got its flier No. five lakh with one Paras Johar checking-in. Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO of Vistara, said: “The sense of accomplishment we feel today is a truly joyous experience and we are glad that so many customers have ‘flown the new feeling’ with Vistara.” 

The coming months will witness the launch of Vistara’s signature lounge at its hub T3, IGI Airport; addition of new aircraft; added frequencies; new destinations and the revolutionary in-flight entertainment system that will provide wireless streaming of preloaded content to customers’ personal electronic devices, a statement said.
