When one thinks of a sari, words like splendid, graceful, sensual and elegant come to the mind. Going beyond the tradition are the collections of ‘House of Taamara’. Apart from the stylish and functional saris, the boutique also offers a limited range of kurtas, tunics, readymade blouses and exquisite jewellery designs that will blow any woman over.

The founders of the boutique are sisters-in-law, Madhavi Rongala and Jyothsna, who feel that every sari narrates the story of the weaver and the weave. The duo say that thanks to the vastness of our country and the diversity of its people, saris come in a delightful range of textures, designs, borders and colours. This includes ‘tussar’, ‘venkatgiri’, ‘kanjeevaram’, ‘chanderi’, ‘jamdani’, muslin, ‘ikat’, ‘kantha’, ‘patola’, ‘gadwal’, ‘pochampalli’, ‘banarasi’ and Mysuru silk, to name a few.

Madhavi says, “The brand is named after the lotus, which is a symbol of divine beauty and purity. We strive to provide a carefully curated selection of hand-woven, hand-crafted saris of many kinds from around the country.” The boutique, which is located in the lush green neighbourhood of Indiranagar, provides an atmosphere that is earthy, spacious and intimate. “Our saris start from Rs 850. We pick styles according to the weaves of different regions we’ve explored. Since every region has a unique weave, we are inspired to design and curate accordingly.” The unique part of the boutique is that they don’t follow any season and keep adding collections through the year.

The target audience of the brand varies from youngsters to homemakers, and thus they keep their collections trendy and viable for all. “From handloom saris to kurtas, tunics to readymade blouses and matching yet distinctly styled silver jewellery, we believe that we have something to suit everyone’s taste here,” says Madhavi.

Most shoppers have a pre-fixed idea of what they want to purchase while shopping, but even if one is not sure about what they are looking for, the staff in this boutique is well-equipped to understand the customers’ needs and help them accordingly. “Starting from the fabric to what the client wants to accessorise her look with, our staff is trained to mix and match,” adds Madhavi.
