Toefl question paper leaked, 5 arrested

The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested five people on charges of hacking 78 servers and downloading Toefl (Test of English as a Foreign Language) question papers 10 hours before the exam here on Sunday.

The police arrested the five, including the kingpin, and confiscated the questions papers.
The examination, offered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), tests English proficiency for students wishing to study aboard, particularly in North America. It is conducted worldwide online and Hyderabad has several centres for students from both the Telugu states.

The police said the five-member gang used advanced technology to hack 78 servers to extract the question papers 10 hours before the undisclosed test on Sunday. The police refused to disclose the specifics of the test for which the papers were leaked, as it would affect the admission process of thousands of students.

The STF, which had several clues on leaked question papers, arrested Abhishek Reddy and his four close aides, who have experience in hacking, including ethical hacking.
“Experts in the cybercrimes wing arrested these culprits within hours of downloading the paper. The police also seized their computer hard disks,” said a cybercrime officer.
