Cops widen Sheena murder probe

Last Updated 05 September 2015, 19:17 IST

The probe into the murder of Sheena Bora is far from over, with the Bandra magistrate court on Saturday extending the remand of the accused by two days.

They will be produced in court again on Monday.

The Mumbai Police have widened the ambit of the investigation to check whether more than three persons were involved in the homicide.

“This is a case where no one is beyond suspicion and all angles are being probed and analysed,” said highly-placed police sources.

“The police have not yet given a clean chit to anyone,” said the sources, but refused to divulge who else was on their radar. The exact motive and the complete financial trail is yet to be established, despite the cops joined the dots to quite an extent within a fortnight. The three persons arrested so far in the case are Sheena's mother Indrani Mukerjea nee Bora, her first husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai.

Statements of half a dozen others — including TV tycoon and Indrani's current husband Peter Mukerjea, their son Rahul Mukerjea, who had a live-in relationship with the victim girl, Indrani and Khanna's daughter Vidhie, who has now been adopted by Peter Mukerjea, Indrani's son Mikhail Bora, who has accused her mother of attempting to eliminate her, and Sheena and Mikhail's biological father Siddhartha Das — have been recorded.

Further investigations

“We would like to investigate further whether some more persons are involved in the crime, directly or indirectly, and if so, arrest them. Hence, we would like to further keep the accused in police custody,” said the Khar police station before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S M Chandgade on Saturday.

“We need to know who else helped her,” said special public prosecutor Vaibhav Bagade.
The prosecutor maintained before court that Indrani was not cooperating with investigators and hence her custody needed to be extended.

“The scope of the probe is large. The accused is a hard nut to crack. They have used modern tools like email and Internet, Skype to plan the murder. They impersonated the victim by creating false email addresses. She (Indrani) created a bogus email ID. We have to probe further,” said Bagade.
