Digvijaya Singh weds TV journalist Amrita Rai

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has married TV journalist Amrita Rai, with whom he has been having a relationship for sometime.

Rai, 44, made the announcement of her marriage to 68-year-old Singh, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, on Facebook on Sunday. The couple is currently in the United States.

Singh, an AICC General Secretary, has said he will make the announcement of his marriage after his return to India.

In a Facebook post, Rai said the wedding was solemnised as per Hindu rites and that she desired none of Singh’s property or belongings.

“I would like to share with my friends that I and Digvijaya Singh have married in a solemn ceremony, as per Hindu rites. We have also later registered our marriage,” she said in a Facebook post.

Rai, who works with Rajya Sabha TV, said she married for love. “Therefore, I have already requested him to transfer all his property and belongings to his son and daughters. I only want to embark on this new journey with him, working towards a dignified, professional career,” she added.

Singh, who lost his wife Asha in 2013, had confirmed on Twitter last year that he was in a relationship with Rai, who is a divorcee.
