5 women relieved of gold chains

After six women were robbed of their gold chains in the City on Wednesday, chain-snatchers targeted five more women on Thursday.

Of the five incidents, three were reported from Tavarekere off Magadi Road.
In Kamakshipalya, a woman was robbed of her gold chain near Basava Park in KHB Colony on Thursday morning. Around 7.40 am, Savithri, 51, was on her morning walk. As she reached Basava Park, two bike-borne men snatched her gold chain weighing 97 gram and fled the spot.

In Tavarekere, around 10.30 am, Pushpa (33), a resident of Ratna Nagar, Doddagollarahatti, was relieved of her gold chain weighing 60 gram by two men, who came on the bike, on Pipeline Road.

Around 10.45 am, Vishalakshi, 31, a resident of Vinayaka Nagar, was going to tailoring class when two persons came on a bike and made away with her gold chain weighing 35 gram. Around 11 am,  Sunitha, 42, a resident of Ullal Layout, was buying flowers from a street vendor in front of her house.

A person, who came on the pretext of buying flowers, made away with her gold chain weighing 100 gram and fled the spot on a bike of his associate. “Going by the modus operandi, the chain-snatching incidents reported in the past few days are suspected to be the handiwork of the Irani gang. We are confident of nabbing the culprits,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police N S Megharik told Deccan Herald, “The recent chain-snatching incidents have taken place in isolated spots. We are working on it and found that there are two sets of gangs at work. We also have some clues and the  CCTV footage is being examined. The police have also been put on high alert and are following up the incidents,” the police commissioner said.
