V K Murthy feted

The hall where Murthy was felicitated echoed with thunderous applause and people stood on their feet as Murthy was invited for the felicitation. After the felicitation, the anxious audience waited for the great cinematographer to speak a few words. But a humbled and moved Murthy had tears in his eyes. All  he said was, “I am unable to speak at this moment. I am moved with the love and affection you all have showered on me. Thanks.”

Winners of the National Film awards Abhaya Simha (Director- Gubbachchigalu), P Sheshadri (Director- Vimukthi), Shailaja Nag (Artha), Shivadhwaj (Director- Gaggara, a Tulu film) were also felicitated.

At another function in the City, Kannada Rakshana Samithi also felicitated V K Murthy.
Film producer Sa Ra Govindu said, Murthy was only the second legend after Rajkumar who got the Dadasaheb Phalke award without ‘lobbying.’ They got it because of their sheer talent and contribution to the industry, he said.

Earlier, Minister for Law and Urban Development, Suresh Kumar felicitated Murthy with a plaque in recognition of his contribution to films. “Murthy is the first legend who actually lit the lamp of Kannada in the entire country”, he said.
