Preparatory camp gets underway

Last Updated 21 September 2015, 17:49 IST

The seven-day preparatory camp of the Indian players for the forthcoming series against South Africa began here on Monday on low-key note.

The mood at the team hotel remained sombre following the passing away of the BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Sunday night in Kolkata following a cardiac arrest and all the 30 players went through routine medical and fitness tests while five players -- Shikhar Dhawan, M Vijay, Wriddhiman Saha, Mohammad Shami and KL Rahul who are returning after injuries of varying nature and degrees -- were put through scans.

All the activities were restricted to the team hotel and Tuesday’s workouts too are likely to be indoors at the National Cricket Academy.

All the 30 players selected for the camp have arrived in the city and it is learnt that Test skipper Virat Kohli and limited-overs captain MS Dhoni didn’t travel to Kolkata for Dalmiya’s final rites.

The Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela series launch to be held here on Monday was put off indefinitely following the death of veteran administrator.

The long series begins with first of the three T20Is in Dharamsala on October 2.
