GP member kills wife and kids, ends life

In a gruesome incident, a gram panchayat member hacked his wife and two children to death, before committing suicide, at Nooji in Manchi of Bantwal taluk on Tuesday night.

The deceased are Manchi Gram Panchayat member Padmanabha Nayak (43),
his wife Pushpavathi (37), children Prithvi (9) and Poorvi (7). Nayak, an agriculturist, was into quarry business. Pushpavathi was actively involved with the self-help groups of the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP).

Nayak is suspected to have consumed liquor in the night and later hacked his wife and children to death, before committing suicide.

Death note
The bedroom was soaked in blood. A death note, purportedly written by Nayak, states that he was supposed to get Rs four lakh as life insurance and from others who had taken loans from him and the money could be utilised by his mother and brother.

The incident came to light when Nayak’s brother’s wife Kavitha visited the house, as nobody had come out of the house even after 8 am on Wednesday.
