Water crisis serious in Bhuvanakote

Last Updated 28 May 2009, 17:45 IST

Villagers said a well had been dug near Uttameshwara Government Higher Primary School six years ago under the Zilla Panchayat aid , which used to supply drinking water to about 3-km area including Vidyanagara and Kondibailu.

“The Gram Panchayat, in the name of repairing the 12-feet diameter well, laid a 5-feet diameter ring, and filled soil in the remaining space. While repairing, the water supply pipes have also been damaged, which has disrupted water supply. The residents need to fetch water from the far away Seetha river,” the villagers said.

The residents have expressed their doubt over the substandard quality work. “They have done work worth just Rs 10,000 with a bill of Rs 40,000,” a resident alleged.

“Though the situation has brought to the Panchayat’s notice, it has been neglected.

Even the old well was comparatively better,” the villagers said and urged to repair the well retaining its original size and shape.
