Last Updated 01 October 2015, 19:52 IST

Three weeks before the killing of a 50-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh on suspicion of eating beef, the Home Ministry had warned states against the increasing campaign against cow slaughter by “Hindu activists” that could lead to trouble.

The Home Ministry had on September 11 warned states that campaigns against cow cattle slaughter is increasing and there could be flare-ups during the festive season. The communication was sent to states ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi and Bakrid.

The Centre has now sought a report from the state government about the murder of 50-year-old Iqlakh in Dadri in Greater Noida on Monday night.
