The Hennur police have arrested a Nigerian national who broke into a supermarket near Horamavu and decam-ped with Rs 75,000 in cash and a mobile phone. The entire act of burglary has been captured on CCTV cameras.

According to the police, Joshua Biridee, 19, gained entry into the Magick Super Market, located near Horamavu railway track, through the terrace door of the shop and made away with the loot. The police have recovered the cash and a mobile phone from him.

How cops nailed him
On Sunday night, the supermarket staff  locked the shutters as usual after closing the shop. When they came back the next day, everything was intact. But they realised that the shop was burgled only after they found the damaged cash box and saw that money was missing. A police complaint was then lodged, said a senior police officer.

The police, who went to the spot, found that the cash counter, a computer and glass shelves were damaged. They also came across the CCTV footage of a youth walking into the shop and trying to break the cash box and shelves.

The police enhanced the image of the youth seen on the CCTV footage and found that he was a foreign national. They spoke to other Nigerian nationals in the area, collected details and zeroed in on one person, who revealed that his friend Joshua had recently moved to the City and was residing with him. Joshua was then picked up for questioning. He confessed to the crime during the interrogation.

Joshua had come to India on a visa and had lived in Delhi and Mumbai for sometime before moving to the City. He was staying in Hennur along with his friend. The police are yet to verify his passport, visa and other documents. The police are checking his background with the Foreigner Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to find out if his visa has expired or if he is an illegal immigrant.

A case has been registered in Hennur police station.
