The city of Melbourne now boasts of the most expensive apartment in Australia, with a luxury penthouse snapped up by an anonymous investor for a whopping $19 million. Located in the city’s tallest skyscraper, called Australia 108, the exclusive property was purchased by a Chinese businessman.

The 750-square-metre penthouse, which is yet to be built, will span the entire 100th floor. Hailed as the most expensive single apartment ever sold in Australia, the asking price works out at $25,000 per square metre.

A private glass elevator will lift the new owner up to his lavish pad from the grand foyer on level 98, where he will be met with a 360-degree view of the city. The 319-metre-high structure will eclipse Melbourne’s current tallest building, Eureka Tower, and is due for completion in 2019. Work on the site began recently with the demolition of the former building. The skyscraper will be constructed in three phases.

The $770 million development has some unique internal features, including infinity pools, private dining spaces, saunas and theatres. The previous highest recorded apartment sale in Melbourne was a $14.8 million pad in the de luxe 150 East complex.
