Last Updated 24 October 2015, 19:50 IST

Harish Babu, the suspect who stabbed sub-inspector (SI) Jagadish to death, is HIV+ve, said a top police source.

A senior police officer said, “During interrogation, Babu said that he is suffering from Aids and produced a medical certificate which said that he was HIV+ve. The certificate was issued by Victoria Hospital and when we checked with a few doctors at the hospital, they confirmed that the certificate was from Victoria Hospital. Babu had undergone the test around eight months ago. Whenever he was arrested thereafter, he used to produce the certificate and tell the police that he was HIV+ve and escaped interrogation.”

“After killing SI Jagadish, Babu and co-accused Madhu went to Doddabidarakallu where Thimmakka, Madhu’s mother, was residing and took a gold chain weighing 12 gram from her. They told her that they were in a crisis and that will be back in a few days, before leaving the place. They went to Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, mortgaged the jewels with jeweller Hanumantharamu and took Rs 5,000 from him. They hid the revolver and clothes in Hanumantharamu’s house and went to Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh. We recovered five bullets of the revolver stolen from Jagadish,” the officer said.

The officer said that they took the suspects to the crime spot, recorded their statements and made video footage. Again they will be taken to the spot on Sunday.
