Last Updated 04 February 2010, 17:18 IST

Addressing a press meet, Association Secretary K M Manjanady said owing to the ‘crazy’ for English language and mushrooming of English medium school, the number of students pursuing their education in aided schools are on decline. Though several Government schools are facing threat of closure, the teachers are transferred to the neighbouring school. However, in case of aided schools, the teachers have to appear for state-level counselling for their appointment.

The demands of the Association include the students-teachers ratio should be 1:25. Free uniforms should be distributed to the aided school children along with the government school kids. The fee for the girl students studying in aided schools must be waived off. The school administration should be given 5 per cent maintenance grant.

The additional teachers in aided schools must be appointed as BRP/CRP. The teachers must be given medical allowances.  The convention will be inaugurated by Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegade Kageri. District-in-Charge Minister Krishna Palemar will preside.  ZP President Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, MLA Yogish Bhat, Coastal Development Authority Chairman Nagaraj Shetty, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik will be the chief guests.
