MCC leads in urban development: Study

Mysuru taluk leads in human development, food security and child development

Adding another feather to its cap, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has topped the list of urban development index in the district according to a study conducted by the Department of Studies in Economics and Cooperation, University of Mysore and Mysuru Zilla Panchayat for the year 2014.

The findings of the study were released at the Zilla Panchayat hall here on Thursday.

Of the seven taluks in the district, Mysuru taluk tops in human development index, followed by a decrease in gender discrimination. The taluk has maintained the same numero uno status in child development and food security index, while it has been placed third in composite taluk development index, according to the ‘Mysuru District Human Development Report-2014’.

In urban development, MCC has earned 0.819 points, followed by 0.583 - T Narsipur Town Panchayat, 0.546 - K R Nagar Town Municipal Council, 0.539 - Sargur Town Panchayat, 0.434 - Nanjangud Town Municipal Council, 0.417 - Periyapatna Town Panchayat, 0.383 - H D Kote Town Panchayat, 0.381 - Hunsur Town Municipal Council and 0.341 - Bannur Town Municipal Council.

It is concluded that MCC is ranked seventh among city corporations and 137 in the State. Compared to other towns in the district, there has been an improvement in the development of basic infrastructural facilities.

Taluk-wise details
Compared to other taluks, Mysuru tops with 0.813 points in human development index against the 12th place in the district level in the State.

It is followed by a distant 0.503 of Hunsur taluk in second place, 0.461 - K R Nagar, 0.406 - Periyapatna, 0.312 - Nanjangud, 0.289 - T Narsipur and 0.264 - H D Kote in last place.

The gender discrimination is low in Mysuru at 0.064, followed by 0.073 - Hunsur, 0.075 - Periyapatna, 0.080 - H D Kote, 0.087 - T Narsipur, 0.105 - K R Nagar and 0.138 - Nanjangud.
In child development, Mysuru has recorded 0.679, followed by 0.608 - Periyapatna, 0.584 - T Narsipur, 0.557 - K R Nagar, 0.482 - H D Kote, 0.475 - Hunsur and 0.417 - Nanjangud.

Similarly, Mysuru leads in food security with 0.648 points, followed by 0.493 - Hunsur, 0.432 - Periyapatna, 0.422 - Nanjangud, 0.376 - K R Nagar, 0.363 - T Narsipur and 0.269 - H D Kote.

In composite taluk development, K R Nagar leads at 0.599, followed by 0.569 - H D Kote, 0.542 - Mysuru, 0.537 - T Narsipur, 0.532 - Periyapatna 0.519 - Hunsur and 0.484 - Nanjangud.
