The saying ‘When in doubt bake a cake’ is followed religiously by many. While it acts as a stressbuster to many, it is an addiction for the rest. Whatever it may be, baking has always been considered as an art and a bond one gets attached to.

Anshuman Deep started baking when she was in eighth standard. Now, a homemaker and proprietor of ‘Cupcake Couture’, as she calls it, she has taken baking to a whole new level and churning out cupcakes in all kinds of delectable moulds. It is a hobby that gives her immense pleasure and brings smiles on innumerable faces.

“Baking for me is a leisure-time activity that gives me pleasure. My mother used to bake some amazing cakes, I guess I have inherited her traits for baking,” she says.

As for the name ‘Cupcake Couture’, she explains, “Every cupcake I make are designed ones. It’s not copied from anywhere. These are homemade and customised with a lot of variety in terms of colours, shapes and ingredients. Though I concentrate on baking healthy cupcakes by using ingredients like olive oil, substituting sugar with jaggery and ‘maida’ with ‘atta’, I do customise cakes according to how people want me to and what they want me to add in their cupcakes.”

Anshuman bakes cupcakes for occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, and as gifts to near and dear ones.

Baking a cake is an art and the skill to perfection comes only with practice and patience. “I prioritise my work and follow it accordingly. This helps me strike a balance in life and I enjoy everything I do,” she says.

Getting orders and positive feedback from friends and family have boosted her confidence and she is experimenting more often.

However, when asked if she wants to do it on a permanent basis, she says, ‘I haven’t thought about it as of now as baking cakes are a passion for me’.

She says, “I do get a lot of orders from my friends and family, they have always been encouraging and supportive right from the time I started baking. This has pushed me to try out new things each time. I have not thought of  turning this passion into a business as of now.”

She has displayed her cupcakes at different exhibitions and has received appreciation for it. “I am excited to put up a stall for ‘Diwali’ at our apartment.”
