A leopard killed, devoured a sheep and carried away two lambs in the taluk creating fear among the residents at Ammanagudi Koppal in the taluk on Monday.
The sheep belonged to Puttegowda of the village. According to him, he had tied all the sheep at his shed on Sunday night. He found a sheep and lambs missing in the morning and searched for them all around. After a thorough search, he found the carcass of the sheep.
It is said that the leopard had dragged a sheep to a nearby land, killed and consumed it. The pug marks, found in the village, prove that the leopard had strayed from the nearby forest in search of food, the villagers said.
Compensation assured
Forest department officials, who visited the spot, confirmed the incident and also assured of suitable compensation to Puttegowda. A cage will be placed in the village to trap the leopard, they have told the villagers.
