Two farmers committed suicide in Mandya while another ended his life in Mysuru district on Monday.
A debt-ridden farmer consumed poison at Mathighatta village in KR Pet taluk of Mandya district. The deceased, Rajegowda (70), had availed Rs three lakh loan. Shivanna (40), a farmer from Manchanahalli in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district hanged himself. He had cultivated tomato, ragi, jowar and other crops on two acres of land.
The crops had withered and the borewell had failed. He had borrowed Rs 3 lakh, including Rs 60,000 in his wife’s name and a gold loan of Rs 80,000. Kantharaju (35) of Telaginakuppe village in Periyapatna taluk of Mysuru district consumed poison. He had grown tobacco, ginger, jowar on his 2.5-acre land. He had availed Rs 2.5 lakh loan from a bank and Rs 3 lakh from private moneylenders.
