Political parties dividing dalits: Dalit Sangharsh Samithi

Last Updated 03 November 2015, 18:03 IST

Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samithi (DSS) is all set to stage a protest against the State and Union governments for failing to act against atrocities on SC and ST communities on November 16.

DSS members will stage protests in all district headquarters and submit memoranda to the respective deputy commissioners, DSS State president Venkatagiriyaiah said here on Tuesday.

Compared to previous years, crime against women, children and deprived classes, including SC/ST, have increased. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah are indulged in unnecessary activities and are not showing interest in curbing criminal activities, he charged.

He said as per the records available, during 2014-15 nearly 2,600 harassment cases against SC community people have been reported in the State. The situation is worsening since the Congress party came to power.

The chief minister is not showing interest in maintaining peace and harmony, he criticised. Though several organisations have been formed to protect dalits and their rights, many have failed due to certain reasons.

Political parties are dividing dalits for their own benefits, he alleged. Pointing at various incidents against dalits in the State, he said dalits had great hopes on Siddaramaiah, but he has failed to protect the rights of the deprived classes.

“Though several incidents took place in chief minister’s neighbouring constituency, he failed to act,” he said.
