Tamil Nadu Congress Committee is bracing for yet another factional feud with former Union minister P Chidambaram, K V Thankabalu and former state unit president M Krishnaswamy wanting its current chief EVKS Elangovan gone.

In a complaint to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the team headed by P Chidambaram accused Elangovan of failing to coordinate with the party functionaries and keeping senior leaders at bay.

The team also met party vice president Rahul Gandhi and discussed about Elangovan’s “contradictory” statements, including on the recent meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha.

Elangovan has not been in good terms with Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram in recent times and had sent a show cause notice to the latter on charges of accusing Congress.

The team that met both Sonia and Rahul asked the party high command to change the state unit chief, especially since the Assembly elections are getting closer.

Though Elangovan did not attach much importance to the senior leaders meeting with the party high command, he said the chief’s position is not permanent to anyone.

“Whatever decisions the high authorities take, I will abide by that,” he said on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, several senior leaders are vying for the TamilNadu Congress Committee president’s position and are camping in Delhi. Following the massive defeat in 2014 Lok Sabha polls; the Congress has been depleting in strength in the state.
